Santa Barbara, United States
This image dates back to my very first trip to the United States. I was in Santa Barbara, a strange city — calm, elegant, and yet deserted as soon as night fell.
It was there that I first felt that sensation of live cinema, of an America both manufactured and real.
This staircase looked staged: a perfectly placed palm tree, a blue neon, warm light glowing behind the windows. It was waiting to be seen.
I took the photo instinctively. Everything was already there — the kind of scene that forces nothing yet imposes an atmosphere, a visual certainty.

Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Cette image date de mon tout premier voyage aux États-Unis. J’étais à Santa Barbara, une ville étrange — calme, chic, mais déserte dès la nuit tombée.
J’y ai ressenti pour la première fois ce sentiment de cinéma en direct, d’Amérique fabriquée mais réelle.
Cet escalier semblait mis en scène : palmier parfaitement placé, néon bleu, lumière chaude derrière les vitres. Il attendait qu’on le regarde.
J’ai pris la photo instinctivement. Tout y était — une scène qui ne force rien et impose pourtant une ambiance, une évidence visuelle.

圣巴巴拉，美国
这张照片拍摄于我第一次前往美国的旅程。那时我在圣巴巴拉，这座城市十分奇特——宁静、优雅，但一到夜晚便变得空旷无人。
在那里，我第一次感受到那种“现场电影”的氛围：一个既被制造出来、又真实存在的美国。
这段楼梯看起来像是被精心布置好的：棕榈树的位置完美无瑕，一盏蓝色霓虹灯，窗后散发着温暖的光。它仿佛在等待被看见。
我凭直觉按下快门。一切都已经在那里——一种无需刻意营造却自然呈现的氛围，一种视觉上的必然。
