Epson P20000 print on Canson Infinity Baryta Matt 310gsm paper
60 × 75 cm
Unique print, 1/1.
This work is part of a set of five unique transformations created from the same source image.
This work originates from a photograph taken in the countryside around Chiang Mai, during a night spent driving without a fixed route with my son. He was holding the flash while I photographed these trees by the side of the road, giving the scene an almost ritual glow.
Back in my studio in Marseille, the image was transformed through a process of physical rephotography, using a material setup involving light, water, reflections, particles and optical accidents.
The colour and matter are not digitally generated: they come from a second photographic moment, real and unstable, impossible to reproduce exactly. The final work therefore carries the trace of two superimposed nights: the night of the original photograph in Thailand, and the night of its material transformation.
